Junior Week

Dear Members and Parents,

This years Junior week focuses on beginners and improvers. We are seeking new sailors who will be the lifeblood of the Club over the next 20 – 30 years. Two groups will be run to really introduce and bring on those new to sailing. Unfortunately due to demand we have also had to introduce a 2 year limit within this training programme. Those completing the junior week and also those who have already completed 2 years of training are encouraged to become involved with the informal junior coaching sessions undertaken by Richard Cracknell. Please contact Richard to express your interest. The club now has a fleet of 3 Fevas (partly funded by the SDF fund) ideal for youngsters to practice. These may be borrowed for these sessions.,There will also be a 50 %discount offered on training courses at Oceanus Sailing for those who no longer qualify for this years junior week.

This years training week will run from Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th August.

It will be open to family and junior members aged between 11 and 16 years. Closing date for applications is 30 th June and any remaining places will be offered to non members whom will be required to join the club at the normal rate.

Tuition will be given by competent club sailors and RYA qualified personnel under the umbrella of Oceanus Sailing

 It would be hugely helpful for any parents who can offer help in the practical running of the week, whether it be expertise or logistical support to please get in touch.

The nominal charge is £105 per applicant. Children involved should be competent swimmers capable of swimming at least 50 metres. Please come equipped with a change of clothes, waterproofs (ideally a wetsuit), wind proofs and a CE marked buoyancy aid. It is important to be aware we sail in a potentially dangerous environment and children will be expected to behave in a responsible manner.

For those without necessary equipment the club has a limited store of waterproofs and lifejackets – please contact me in advance if you wish to borrow.

We intend to hold the junior disco on Wednesday with the prize giving and barbeque after sailing on the Friday. Any help with these social events would again be gratefully received.

Please sign and return the attached consent and application form together with a cheque payable to Wells Sailing Club and please retain this letter for future reference.
